An early October 2019 meeting in Malawi explored and energized the founding idea of developing hubs as vehicles for agroecological transformation and intensification. The 40 participants included team members from the three hubs across Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, and Uganda; the CCRP ESAf regional team; the CCRP leadership team; representatives of the region’s farmer research network (FRN) projects; and experts from other key institutions.

Participants appreciated the opportunity to collectively explore the vision and concept of the hub, revealing healthy differences in perspective. The meeting also enabled participants to identify ways to collaborate and address key operational challenges. These issues included governance structures, communication strategies, tools and resources, and monitoring and evaluation.
