AGUAPAN: Payment for Environmental Services

Founded in July 2015, the Association of Guardians of the Native Potato (AGUAPAN) is a network of Peruvian farmers who serve as custodians of potato diversity. Each member actively conserves at least 50 varieties. For their service, farmers receive annual payments from two Dutch potato seed companies as their way of fulfilling the spirit of the Paris treaty on biodiversity conservation. CCRP grantees Yanapai and the International Potato Center (CIP) in the Andes are involved in this important effort. Watch the video via the link below.
